Principles of Construction
The basic principle of Tuned Mass Damper is to absorb the energy of structural vibration into the TMD system through dynamic absorption, and dissipate the vibration energy of the system through damping elements, thereby reducing the vibration response of the structure under dynamic effects such as wind loads, small and medium-sized earthquakes, and pedestrian excitations, improving comfort, and reducing fatigue damage to the structure.
Tuned Mass Damper is mainly composed of inertial mass, stiffness elements, and damping elements. Its working principle is to absorb and collect the structural vibration energy into the Tuned Mass Damper system through the characteristic of dynamic vibration absorption, and dissipate it. Specifically, when a building is subjected to external excitation, the Tuned Mass Damper will produce oscillations opposite to those of the building, thereby counteracting the vibration of the building and achieving the effect of vibration reduction.

Working Principle
Tuned mass damper (TMD) is a vibrating mass that moves out of phase with the perturbing force inducing vibration in the structure
the TMD is installed on. With its out of phase motion, the inertial force of the TMD mass abates the resonant vibration of the
structure by dissipating its energy. The ideal extent of phase difference between the motion of the TMD mass and that of the
structure, i.e., 90 degrees, is attained by tuning the TMD to the natural frequency of the structural mode targeted for damping.
