The working principle of bridge spherical bearings mainly relies on the sliding between the spherical surface and the PTFE plate to achieve displacement and rotation.
Specifically, the bridge spherical bearing consists of two parts, the upper part is a spherical surface and the lower part is a ball seat. A low friction coefficient polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) sliding plate is filled between the spherical surface and the ball seat. This material has a small sliding friction coefficient, which can effectively reduce friction and improve the service life of the support. When the bridge is subjected to a load, the displacement of the spherical support is achieved by the sliding between the upper support plate and the planar PTFE plate. At the same time, by setting guide grooves or guide rings on the upper support plate, the one-way or multi-directional displacement of the support can be constrained, thereby making fixed supports, one-way movable supports, or two-way sliding supports.
In addition, the rotation angle of the spherical support is satisfied by the sliding between the spherical plate and the spherical PTFE plate. Due to the possible misalignment between the rotation center of the support and the rotation center of the upper structure, a second sliding surface may form between the upper support plate and the planar PTFE plate. According to the relative position between the upper structure and the center of rotation of the support, the direction of spherical rotation can be consistent or opposite to the direction of planar sliding. Bridge spherical bearings are mainly composed of upper bearing plates, lower bearing plates, spherical crown lining plates, flat sliding plates, and spherical sliding plates.
Specifically:
Upper support plate: fixed on the bridge structure, providing support for the bearings and transmitting the vertical load of the bridge to the lower structure.
Lower support plate: usually embedded with a concave spherical surface, used for installing sliding plates and dispersing the support reaction force to the bridge piers and abutments.
Ball crown lining plate: located between the upper and lower support plates, it forms a rotating sliding surface with the sliding plate through a spherical chrome plating layer (or other material) to adapt to the angular deformation of the bridge.
Flat skateboard and spherical skateboard: used for sliding on flat and spherical surfaces respectively, meeting the displacement and rotation requirements of the support. The flat skateboard can slide relatively under the action of horizontal force, achieving horizontal displacement of the bridge; The spherical skateboard is matched with the crown liner to achieve the rotation of the support.
In addition, bridge ball bearings may also include components such as rubber sealing rings and dust covers to improve the sealing and durability of the bearings.
